Statistics assignment:

1. I chose the topic of gender pay gap. I chose this because I had always heard about the gender gap but this gives more information on the topic and makes me wonder about other statistics for gender inequality.

1a. https://www.visualcapitalist.com/the-largest-gender-pay-gaps-in-oecd-countries/

2. They used percentages as well as sized arrow to give the best average of the pay gap. The percentages are averages in the country and at the bottom they did a total a average of the gender pay gab between all these places.

3. The visual tells us the largest pay gaps in OECD countries. These countries are South Korea, Israel, Latvia, Japan, Cyprus, Estonia, Malta, Canada, U.S, and Mexico. These are listed from the country with the highest pay gab to the country with the 10th highest. The country with the highest pay gap is South Korea with an average pay gap percentage of 31.2% while Mexico is listed as the 10th highest with an average percentage of 16.7%. The total average pay gap is 11.6%. There is not always a huge gap between the countries pay gap in fact Canada and the U.S. have a 0.1% difference. This data was collected in 2022 except the data taken about Israel which was taken in 2021.

4. It provides not only 10 countries and their gender pay gap but it provides the top 10 countries with the largest gender pay gap. It provides the countries from highest to the 10th highest. It provides these statistics in percentages of the countries average. At the end the visual provides us with the information of the total average of gender pay gaps between these top ten counties which is 11.6%.

5. The visual imminently caught my eye. This is due to two reason. One is the bright colours they chose making me want to stop and see what the graph was about. And two is that they chose a big title font making me just have to catch a glimpse of it to know what information was being providing and since it is something I have interested in I stopped and read more about it.

6. After looking at the at the visualization I do feel comfortable extracting data from it. This is because of how they organized it. They clearly put the highest pay gap country at the top and the 10th highest at the bottom (highest to lowest). This made it easy to understand. They also clearly put the percentages (data) as well as visual arrows to give a good estimate of comparison to the other countries.

7. One of the most outstanding parts of the data visualization was that it shows how there are still huge gender pay gaps in places of the world. It is even more outstanding that one of those places is Canada. I found it very heartbreaking that there is anywhere in the world with a 31.2% gender pay gap.

8. I think this information would be helpful for employees but as well as employers. The employees need to understand the importance of standing up for them selves and understand the importance of equals pay as well as knowing when to report inequality in the work place. Employers need to know this information so they know how important equal pay is and how many people in their company might be being effected by this problem.
