STEAM 9
These two picture are from the boat race. This was 3/4 the ways through the race and our boat came in 2nd of our race group against 3 other people.
This is a picture of our first boat model. This is a sized down and paper version.
This was the after affect of our boat. The picture was taken a few minutes after leaving the floating portion of the contest.
- In the end our boat took roughly 1 minute to get across the pool.
- When building the boat we start with the bottom and walls then went back to make a second layer. One the two layers were securely taped together to prevent water from getting in we started to assemble the boat. We started putting together the boat with duct tape then water proofed everything starting with the bottom and working our way up. We water proofed until we ran out of tape then secured anything that really needed it with the left over duct tape.
- Length of pool 25 m. Time it took to cross was 60 seconds. 25/60 = 0.41 m/s
- The fact that we water proof really high up our walls benefited us but our downfall was the shape/dimensions of our boat because the shape caused it to almost fold in have when weight was put in the middle of it.
- We could have improved our boat by making the boat longer and thinner rather than closer to a square. We could have also made paddles to help our boat go faster.
- I think the weight of our racer actually helped us because the more weight put on our boat caused it to fold towards the Center but without enough room to spread out the lighter the racer the better off our boat was. This is why choosing the racer we did benefited us.
