Science polar bear ecology project
Today, I gave a presentation about polar bears and the challenges they face due to climate change. Polar bears live in the Arctic, where they rely on sea ice to hunt seals, travel, and breed. However, as the Arctic warms and sea ice melts, polar bears are struggling to find food and suitable places to breed. The loss of their habitat is a major threat to their survival and affects the whole Arctic ecosystem.
One big factor contributing to this problem is resource extraction, like oil drilling, mining, and fossil fuel production. These activities release greenhouse gases that speed up climate change, causing the ice to melt faster. This not only destroys the polar bears’ habitat but also makes it harder for them to find food. They are forced to travel farther and expend more energy, which makes survival even more difficult. Pollution and noise from these industries also harm the bears and their environment.
To help protect polar bears, it’s important to take action. Efforts like stricter emissions rules, habitat restoration, and conservation programs can help reduce the impacts of climate change. New technologies like carbon capture and renewable energy can also cut emissions and protect the environment. The Polar Bear Protection Act is another step in the right direction, creating protective zones around key habitats to prevent further damage. With these measures, we can give polar bears a better chance of surviving in a warming world.
