This year’s passion project was a BLAST! However, it is essential to understand and learn how my fellow S.T.E.A.M students and I thought and what procedures they used to create their projects. This is what I will be explaining today: how my partner Sam and I created S.T.E.A.M D&D for this year’s S.T.E.A.M fair. When our teacher had told us that our new project is the passion project, I didn’t even know what I was going to make or even if I was going with a partner. I then decided I will go with a partner for this year, so next year I can choose if I will go with a partner or not based on what happened this year. I decided to go with Sam, a fellow S.T.E.A.M student of mine. We started brainstorming right away. We wanted to make something cool for the main project, like a robotic hand, so if we have time we can make cool little projects. We then thought f actually making something we both have a passion for. The problem was Sam and I didn’t really have anything in common. Sam really enjoyed D&D and I played D&D in grade 6 and I had really enjoyed it. THe thing is I kind of forgot what steps you have to take in D&D so then I had gone home and researched about it. The next day I told Sam lets go with D&D and he loved the idea. We started brainstorming again about what we were going to make based on D&D. We brainstormed and the 1 of the main things you need to play D&D is dice. So we modeled the dice in tinkercad and then printed all kinds of dice like the 20 sided dice, the 6 sided dice, the 10 sided dice, the 4 sided dice, and so on. We then printed it out and it came out perfect. Then we had thought of what we should make next as our main project because we finished that in like a week and we still had like 2 months. We then thought of making a rigged dice where we put a magnet inside the dice and then when we roll it out into another magnet the magnets stick together making the dice roll on the same 2 numbers each time and since we went with the 20 sided dice it would be 1 and 20. How we make it roll on 2 numbers is if we put the magnet on the positive side it would stick to the magnet inside the dice on the positive side making it land on 1 but if we flip the magnet to the negative side it would stick to the magnet inside the dice on the negative side making it roll on 20. We then printed it out and we put 2 magnets inside it. we then tested the roll and the magnet was landing on different numbers because the magnets inside the dice weren’t strong enough so then we reprinted the dice model but this time we made the hole inside it bigger so we can fir more magnets and then we had put 4 magnets inside and glued the top and when we rolled it out on to the other magnet it started working perfectly but the only problem was that sometimes on the negative side of the magnet it wouldn’t land on 20 it would land on a different number but that was a rare case though it would land on a different number other then 20around like 1 out of 25 rolls.
