Drafting 9

Welcome to my drafting projects

vinyl stickers

So far we have done three projects in our drafting class. The first project using the cricut software to make our name along with a shape to design and place on our drafting folder. The process was fairly simple but I do believe that if I had used some transfer tape the sticker would have turned out differently and probably even better. Our second project with the cricut software was a science safety logo which would also be the biggest sticker on the folder mainly by accident. It also would have benefited from transfer tape and was a little tricky when trying to make it. Last but not least our last sticker design project was for our cohorts logo which was probably the easiest one to do because it was a simple feather and a font I downloaded call Helvetica and it was the first time I used transfer tape on a project. When making these it was kind of tricky trying to place it in the right area so the blade of the machine cut it correctly and didnt go off and cut the board instead of the vinyl.

Cardboard boat racing

The latest project we have done with our steam 9 classes is complete a series of races of cardboard boats we constructed. The boats were constructed out of the following. two 4×8 sheets of cardboard, 1 roll of duct tape, and one roll of packing tape. To complete the boats on time we were given around 2 hours 30 minutes with all materials and tools supplied by the school.

The boats construction was interesting with two seperate boats being made and three pieces of cardboard being folded up and put inbetween for more air to be inside it. Once we folded and made the boats we put the smaller one inside of the bigger one we had done beforehand and taped it with our duct tape. Next was the most important part of this project water proofing.

For this we put the boat upside down and wrapped it in packing tape while sealing any gaps where water might come into.  Even with those measures put inplace when my team mate got into it a corner folded in and water was even flooding and not even from the collapse. Luckily we made it to the end but we did end up accidently turning around backwards from that fold in that happened. The boat lasted a little longer until I had to get into it during the time we had to just let it float with a person in it. When we return next year and if I get the same people as before we will double the amount of cardboard inbetween the two shells put together.

Passion Project

This is my passion project

This project will have its own page for more info but the fair that we are building with for will be on the 11th of June

Gyroscope Bhor Model

This was our project for before spring break.

The first step of the project was find an element that had a maximum of 20 electrons to fit onto the rings of the project. I chose to do a chlorine bhor model with 17 protons and 18 neutrons. My first attempts were failures either being stuck in the rings or being to small and the print would not work properly. At last before we got out for break I had to use a print that did work provided to me by the teacher so my chlorine bhor model could finally work.
