interesting experience with Ms. Lauder
during the time we had we mostly worked on each step till Ms. lauder told us and we kept up at her pace until she told us when the actual presentations were
Blog about my presentation
during this assignment, which was one of my major topics this year “ecology”, we had to pick an endangered species and along with researching their niche we had to do research and find what was causing them to be endangered then find some indigenous communities that protect them, and finally create our own environmental law for the species, we had to complete this presentation after we had finished the first 5 steps of research on our textbook, this presentation only shows the slides but i had over 20 flashcards with information to add to each.
self reflection and improvements
I feel as if the work and research i put into my whole presentation was sufficient so I am just going to try to keep that up but in my future slideshows I would like to use more eye-catching transitions and techniques
Owl pellet dissection
the thing that surprised me the most during this assignment was how many bones we would actually find, and how the owls each coughed up so many rat remains. one of the main challenges me and my partner faced was just how hard it would be to separate the fuzz and the bones and how the bones would be so delicate as we had to make sure not to break them. we even had to use hydrogen peroxide solution to dissolve some of the fur. I learned that owls hunt and eat rats and that the fur does not actually get digested with the rest of the rat, it was also interesting to see how the owls discard the fur and bones which is obviously by coughing up pellets of remains. this activity connected to the dissection of the frog which we did a couple weeks from when I’m writing this. and the familiarity with the different tools helped us with the dissection and it also connected to our lessons about food chains, predator and prey relationships, and the role of consumers in ecosystems during our ecology unit..
this is the final product of our dissection. overall I think we did pretty well, we used to best of our ability to complete the dissection but most of our bones were very broken and some of them were missing so we had to improvise and borrow some from other collections of bones. we cleaned off the bones, separated them and glued them on.
