Digital Citizenship

A podcast about disinformation:

Script:

Disinformation is false information that is intended to mislead, especially propaganda, issued by a government organization to a rival power or the media. Disinformation impacts a community by causing people confusion about what is real or not or causing them to believe the disinformation, making them consume more of it. This can make people distrustful of certain information outlets, making them change their views, accidentally use disinformation while not knowing better, or believe medical disinformation making people not take medicine.  A recent example was how disinformation on social media impacted people’s information on Covid-19. It made people not get vaccinated and made people believe disinformation about Covid-19. A study on debaumont.org showed how 48% of people believed false statements about Covid-19. It also showed how 11% more people who used social media compared to all people didn’t get vaccinated. I’ve had people I know not take the vaccine because of hearing things online and have seen stickers with disinformation on the vaccine on poles when walking around my neighborhood. I could help classmates identify and stop the spread of disinformation by looking for outlandish titles, bad grammar, low quality images, and lack of sources.

Here is my self-reflection for this project:

Add your audio to your Edublog Portfolio. Please provide the link in Teams.

How could a digital platform be important? What did you consider when curating your website? (Did you simply put your link onto a page?)

Digital platforms are important as you can create an independent audience. I wanted my website to have a dark, simple look when I created it. I just added the link to the page, but I also added some text over it and my self-reflection to make the page look less empty.

What grade do you think you have achieved on this assignment?

I think I achieved an A.
