Film Review – Plastic Earth
- Message of the film/Summary:
The documentary “A Plastic Earth” begins with Director Craig Leeson discussing the huge problem of plastic pollution worldwide. The film then follows a woman named Janice, who is worried about plastic waste, as she learns how bad it is and what people are doing to fix it.
The movie shows different solutions like creating biodegradable plastics, better recycling methods, and cleaning up plastic from the environment. The main message is that, although plastic pollution is a big issue, there are lots of smart people working on ways to reduce it, and we can all help make a difference.
It focuses on giving hope and showing that with the right ideas and actions, we can tackle the problem of plastic pollution.
- Biases:
The documentary shows certain experts who are working on solutions to plastic pollution. While this is helpful, it might leave out other opinions or people who think different things about how to solve the issue.
The film shows how plastic harms the environment, but it might not talk enough about how big companies make a lot of plastic and don’t always take responsibility for it. It focuses more on solutions than on the companies that cause the problem, but at the same time everyone on Earth is contributing to global plastic pollution.
- Reflection
I found it fascinating how the Bubble River Cleaner in Amsterdam is so effective at removing plastic and debris from rivers, yet not many people are aware of it. This innovative tool uses bubbles to help collect waste in the water, making it a highly efficient way to clean up rivers. It’s surprising because rivers are one of the main pathways through which plastic ends up in the oceans, and tools like this could play a crucial role in preventing that. Despite its potential, it seems to not receive the attention it deserves, even though it could be a game-changer in the fight against ocean pollution.
