təmtəmíxʷtən/Belcarra Regional Park
On October, the 8th I went totəmtəmíxʷtən or Belcarra Regional Park for a field trip. I got to take notes, see the scenery, learn how to catch crabs, and some facts about crabs, and some things about the herbs/plants at Belcarra. By the time we got to Belcarra, The weather will be cloudy/drizzly with temperatures ranging from 13-16 degrees Celsius. The first activity that I got to do was crab catching, while catching the crabs we got to identify whether or not they were a female or male crab and what type of crab they were. The second activity that we did was learning about plant/herbs that lived in the park. The plant I got was the “Trailing BlackBerry.” The trailing blackberry leaves and roots can treat diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, excessive menstruation, fever, and sores in the mouth. The vines were also used as lids and bottoms for steaming food; another use was by the Saanish Indians of Vancouver Island for ritual scrubbing. After the second activity we went back to the bus and went back to the school. (A photo of my work right here.)
