Passion Project 2025

SPACE SHOOTER

By James and Jinseo

Hello reader!

I hope to keep you fully intrigued while you are reading my page. Me and my partner worked very hard on this project and hope to share this with you.

This project is about merging both of our passions into one, hence the name, passion project.

I really enjoy drawing, as it is one of my favorite things to do in my free time. I always want to find ways to improve my drawings, get feedback and progress more as an artist. My friend Jinseo has a passion for coding, as he created numerous games with code. I have partnered up with Jinseo to merge our passions into one, to create a game.

At first, our synergy wasn’t great, as it was our first time working together. But as we went further and collaborated more often, we were cooperating more smoothly. As I can’t import a real-life drawing into a digital game, I had to match the technology. I had to pixelize my artworks and send it to Jinseo. I used a site called Pixilart to create my ideas into work. The site made it very easy, as it has a download to STL function. I simply had to finish the drawing and send it to him. The process was another story though. Going into this new style of drawing was a very awkward and uncomfortable feeling. I had to learn how to make shadows with the pixels and create/add more detail into my drawings. I had to learn how to adapt and add more depth into what I usually do. For this project, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and challenged myself to draw digitally. After submitting my works, Jinseo inputs my drawing into his coding language, making the game complete.

Below are the prototypes of my drawings I made

How To Use Pixilart!!!

There is a pencil tool, a brush tool, and a fill tool. With those tools, you draw whatever you want. You can also choose a canvas size, and modify it to your liking. There is also a color tool you can choose to color in the drawing. I like to use a light color first, and then use a warmer and darker color to make the shadows and detail. for the asteroids, as you can see I shaded the bottom parts darker so it can have more depth and detail. After you are satisfied with the drawing, your going to press the save drawing button on the top left. After that it will take you to another page that says upload drawing. Your going to want to give your drawing a title to prevent future confusions. Then press save drawing again to fully complete it.

Challenges:

The biggest challenges I had was trying to make something original. As a lot of people already make their own art, I needed to get references, and make my own kind of work. The process of making the drawings were very difficult.

The Process

The first step:

Me and my partner needed to think about the whole layout, design, and gameplay. We wanted to make a type of space retro style of game. So we decided to make a space shooting game. We also wanted to keep the name simple so we decided to keep it at that.

The Second Step:

Now that we developed a plan, we had to work fast. I originally planned to complete everything by the end of the week, but I had to go on a  vacation for a while. My schedules have been altered, s0 I needed to act quickly. But as I said, making an original artwork is a rather hard thing to do.

The Final Step:

After finishing in quite a long time, I sent all of my artworks to Jinseo. After Jinseo inputs everything into the code, the game was complete. we managed to make it in a pretty good time, and I ended up being pretty satisfied about it. The journey to this project was very long and difficult. I wanted to write down every struggle, and feelings I had when I was doing this project. If you red this far, I want you to acknowledge the struggles me and my partner had to go through.

The reason why I wanted to make a game was because I always wanted to contribute my talents or skills to something. My brother and I always wanted to make a game together but never had the time to. So I figured making it with a friend is just as good as any. The ways to play the games are simple:

The goal is to weave and dodge through a vast space where everything is dark. You have a laser cannon and must dodge the asteroids flying towards you. While you survive, you have to reach 3 minutes of survival time. This game is a very fun and intriguing way to test your reflexes.

Below is the project board and my partner and I next to our project. I don’t really know why I was standing there like that, but it is how it is.     ._.

Our project Board consists of the title, some challenges we faced along the way, how to play the game, some of my prototype drawings, some of the codes used to make the game, and the conclusion.

I had lots of struggles along the way, but I managed to complete this project. I feel like overall, we achieved a mark of proficient, because we have a finished project, the board, and no bugs or glitches in our game.

THANK YOU FOR READING AND HAVE A GOOD DAY
