Drafting 9

Drafting achievements:

CRICUT:

These are my Cricut assignment where I had to create my own name tag,, create an image of a thunderbird(the silver one), and cutting out my own scientific logo that I designed previously in my science safety logo assignment. This was a great assignment where I was able to have fun, and learn a lot. Therefore, this was a great, and pleasant assignment to do.

TINKERCAD BALLOON CAR!

Part 1:

This is technically my first 3d printed Tinkercad project because I actually printed this myself. The Tinkercad tutorial for the balloon car wasn’t quite accurate because I realized the fact that the wheels just did not fit at all. Therefore, I used my own measurements to do it…. Unfortunately, it was not successful.  Although it was not successful, I was able to learn my mistakes and make a brand new second balloon car.

Part 2:

The second time was unexpectedly successful. I spent an hour trying to copy a Lambo(race car) into Tinkercad and make it a balloon car. I thought everything was going well until I realized that the car was way too complicated for the printer, and I couldn’t add a raft below the car. I was really sad about that, but I had to delete the project. After that, I spent 10 mins on modifying the car, but the car still went well, and was able to move pretty smoothy. Part 2 of balloon car still had some flaws, such as the wheels sometimes don’t move, and the fact that it goes off balance easily. Ignoring the mistakes I made during the process, this was overall a good improvement!

I was partnered with my good friend Ethan, and we didn’t do anything yet lol.

BOAT RACE IN HYDE CREEK!:

As you can see, we don’t really have that many photos. The reason for that is because all our group members completely forgot to take any picture at all. Good thing Mr. Tsuka already took some pictures. Phew….. Anyways, during this boat race we made a couple mistakes. The first mistake was picking the wrong priorities to focus on. So basically we did not plan anything before this race, and we only really enhanced the bottom part of the boat , instead of the sides. This was one the reason why we barely finished the race, and failed the float test in less than 10 seconds before sinking. The second mistake would be not getting stuck, and not picking the right people to paddle. As you might know, I am a very light person, but my group members and I have decided to pick Ethan(might be the heaviest and least strong) to paddle. With these two mistakes, we weren’t able to make any progress. Overall, this boat race was very fun, and I was able to learn to plan before doing a big project or anything really. Another lesson would also be picking the right person to paddle. Even if you have a higher mass, it does not necessary mean that its better. In fact, I found that more mass equals more pressure on the boat, which is the more water it has to be displaced.  This affects the buoyancy of the boat because it makes the boat have to work more to float, which is worse for the boat race.

Bee hive/house

Here are the bee houses that our steam cohort did, it might have some of the other cohort’s sticks in there as well.

During the presenter’s talk, she mentioned about the bee house (the image above) that it is not ideal for bees to live there because the shape of the house should not look like a house, and should look like a tower with a hole on top. She also mentioned about that the sticks in the beehouse has to be made out of wood, or paper that has no chemicals on it, other than wood of course. This lesson for me was very interesting because I learned that honey bees aren’t the best pollinators. Before, I really thought that only honey bees pollinate, but it turns out that there are lots more bee species than I thought. Overall, her presentation was influential and is a good learning opportunity for me to learn more about bees, instead of fearing getting stung by bees.
