Foosball Table (gr 10)

Description

In this page you will find step by step on how Carter Donahue and I make a foosball table for the STEAM Fair 2024.

  1.  Sketch a foosball table with a design of choice
  2. Transfer sketch to a drawing on Fusion 360.
  3. Produce a laser cut cardboard version of your sketch than assembles together.
  4. Sketch players (size matters) and handles (include support for players).
  5. Transfer sketch to a drawing in Fusion 360.
  6. 3D print the players and the handle system.
  7. Using what you have printed and the cardboard version of the foosball table, assemble everything together to see if it works.
  8. If it works, awesome enjoy and play.
  9. Make a PowerPoint/Poster explaining how we did it.

Bonus:

  1. Add designs to the foosball table
  2. Make it out of wood
  3. Make tokens.
  4. Add a goal counter.

That’s a job well done!

Why?

We choose this project because we wanted a challenge and we got one. It was a project that required decent amount of playing as well as testing of multiple things and paying attention to detail.

Check In #1

Check In #1 is in the past which means Carter and I  have an initial Fusion 360 design which will likely change but it is a good baseline to start with. We have planned out a basic outline and how we will record our progress.

Check In #2

Check in #2 completed!. Carter and I have met our deadlines for this check in which was to have something physical that we can test and adjust for the future. The foosball table fits pretty well and it went really smooth. Despite that, we found little things we could adjust in order to make it more practical and aesthetic.

Check In #3

Not much has changed since last time as we are currently printing all our players and each one takes about 1.5 hours so that will take some time as we need about 16 players. We are also printing a handle system that will assemble to hold the players.

During this time we have written out in a Word document multiple components that we will have on our poster for the fair.

Check In #4

The handle system we initially came up with failed which means we had to change idea and now we are using some wooden rods that are a one piece construction which our player will slide on and be glued into place with hot glue.

Our components for our poster have been typed out and are ready to print, we just have to buy and poster board now.

Check In #5

We are almost done and the fair date is closing in. The foosball table itself has been completed but we are still yet to find a poster so we can present our creation. We are planning on getting one soon so its ready for the fair.

The Fair

The fair was good and what was better was that plenty of people were excited to use the foosball table. Many friend came and played which was nice to see. Our poster was completed on time so we were able to present with no issues. Overall the project was fun, challenging and had a positive result. We are already thinking of continuing the same project for next year and making better than what it already is.

Reflection

Carter and I are likely going to build on this project for next year and we have some ideas as to what to improve on our design such as making it out of wood, players made from different colors, a goal counting system, anti-slipping edges. There’s obviously still a lot of time so changes and ideas will come and ago but here is and example of some of the feedback we got from some of the people who played on our foosball table.
