Using Data To Tell Visuals

  1. What topic did you choose? Why did you choose it?                                                              The topic I choose was the largest U.S. corporations by number of employees. I choose this topic because I thought it was interesting to see how many people were employed by these corporations.                                                                                                1a. The Top U.S. Corporations by Number of Employees (visualcapitalist.com)
  2. Describe the type of visual that was used to get the data across.                                         The type of visual that was used was circles increasingly getting bigger with the amount of employees. The circles were also color coordinated by what type of corporation they were.
  3. In a few sentences what does the visualization tell us?                                                         The visualization tells us the number of employees employed under what corporation and what type of industry that corporation is. The industry with the most amount of employees is consumer discretionary/staples.
  4. What type of information is given in the visualization?                                                        The information that was given in the visualization was how many employees in each major corporation.
  5. Did the visualization catch your eye? Why or why not?                                                         The visualization caught my eye because there was a lot of different colors and the way the data was shown was eye catching.
  6. After looking at the visualization do you feel comfortable extracting data from it? Why or why not?                                                                                                                             I  feel comfortable extracting data because they have there sources. The information is well presented and looks professional.
  7. What is the most outstanding part of the data visualization?                                               The part that stands out for me is the way the data is represented. It looks interesting and makes you want to dive deeper into it.
  8. Describe where you think people would be able to use this information/data. Give an example where this data may have been relevant and can be used.
