Out of the possible quotes I could’ve chosen, I chose this one because it reminds the everyday actions of myself and the people around me don’t have any effect in the big picture. If I make a mistake during a presentation or speech, I shouldn’t be embarrassed because it’ll be forgotten by the end of the week. As much as such a thought is unnerving, it is also reassuring.

The reason that I chose this video is because one of my favorite instruments to play is the bass guitar. Additionally, this specific model – the Yamaha TRBX174 BL was my first bass guitar, and is my most preferred model thus far.

This is the Onement VI by Barnett Newman, and it sold for 43.8 million dollars. I keep this as a reminder that no matter how pointless I think something I’ve made is, somebody else might find value in it. That, and how if I’m ever struggling in life and am in need of money, I can just paint a white line on a large canvas with an uneven paint job and find some poor soul online who will buy it.

Who am I?
My name is Mia Malic, I was born in Novi Sad, Serbia, and I immigrated to Canada with my mother and father when I was seven years old. We went back to visit every summer before COVID started, and my most recent visit was November-March 2023. In my free time I read, draw, play music, and write.
What is important to me?
To me, my family and friends are incredibly valuable. I’m not a very materialistic person, but my most important material possesions would be my sketchbooks, books, and instruments.
Who or what inspires me?
Listening to music, playing video games, going on walks, internet surfing – any activity which doesn’t require too much work, lets my brain work and relax on its own, or can be linked back to a creative outlet is enough for me to become inspired.
What is STEAM to me?
To me, STEAM is a place where I can freely try new things, learn, make new experiences, and test my knowledge.
Why did I choose to join STEAM?
I chose to join STEAM because I wanted to challenge myself academically, step outside of my comfort zone, try something I never have before, and meet and form relationships with people who have similar interests to mine.
