Passion Project 2024: THE SCHOOL MAP 🧭

📍 Beginning – Why Did I Choose This Project?
Welcome to my Passion Project in 2024! 👋
Have you ever felt lost in a new school or building? My name is Taha, and i noticed that many students—especially Grade 9s and visitors—struggle to find their way around Terry Fox Secondary. That’s when we had the idea:
Let’s build a QR-code-based map system that helps people teleport (digitally) to see where they need to go!
I called it “SCHOOL MAP.” Using QR codes posted at key locations in the school, anyone can scan and instantly open a simple, mobile map with labeled photos of hallways, stairwells, and room directions.

⚙️ Middle – How Did the Project Go?
My journey had its challenges—and lots of learning!
✅ Successes:
- I successfully designed a clean, easy website.
- I photographed the school and labeled the photos so students could recognize exactly where they were.
- I generated working QR codes and tested them to see if it works
❌ Mistakes + Learning Moments:
- my first photo batch was blurry—I had to redo the entire photo!
- I forgot to compress our images at first, so the map page loaded too slowly.
- I originally planned to make an app, but realized that a website was more practical and easier to update
🎉 End – What Was the Final Result?
Did it work? Yes—and better than we expected!
Students and teachers tested it during Passion Project Day and gave amazing feedback. Everyone loved how fast and easy it was to use, especially the QR navigation at each hallway intersection. Some even said it could be used by substitute teachers or new staff in the future!
💡 What I Learned:
- Web development and user experience design are harder than they look—but also super fun.
- Real-world problems can have simple solutions if you observe and listen to them.
- Communication is just as important as skills.
If I could do one thing differently next time, I’d love to add a search bar to the map and possibly translate it into multiple languages for EAL students.
📘 Thank you for visiting my project page. I hope that “SCHOOL MAP” made your school experience a little easier!

We finished the STEAM Fair, and it was a great success. I sold a lot of items, and I’m proud of how well everything went. It felt good to see people interested in what I made and to watch them actually buy it. I learned how to talk to customers, explain my project, and manage money. It was fun but also a bit tiring. This experience helped me build confidence and taught me that with effort and creativity, I can turn an idea into something real and successful.
