Media Awareness Assignment Part II
What is disinformation? You see something and you don’t think about it if it is true or not, and you tell other people about it, and it will keep on spreading if no one realizes it’s not true.
How does disinformation impact a community? If someone in my family says something we probably trust them and if they say something, we will most likely believe it but there have been a few times that someone has found out that it is not true.
Find and describe a recent real-world example where disinformation impacted a community. At the start of COVID-19 there was A LOT of people making stuff about it and saying it’s not true or saying like the government is trying to kill us or saying the vaccines will do something to us. At the start my family also believed that but then we started thinking it is true because a lot of people in my family in Canada and Iran got COVID-19 and they told us about what happened to them. Then we started being careful and we still kind of is.
Give an example/share an experience of how disinformation impacted you or your community. A few weeks ago, we saw on the news a building in Iran was destroyed and, on the news, they said more than 100 people died and that made us emotional even though we didn’t know anyone that died in the building, and we couldn’t imagine how hard it was for the families that their members died. Then we found out that it wasn’t 100 people, it was still but it’s still emotional.
How would you help your fellow classmates identify and stop the spread of disinformation? I would just tell them that think before you share or tell me if you find some disinformation, let me know so I could spread it.
