My Ecology project

My PowerPoint presentation

Below is the PowerPoint with all the slides I made for my ecology project. Below the PowerPoint slides you will find information about my ecology project.

Description of the presentation

For this assignment, we had to choose an animal that’s endangered, threatened, or vulnerable. Once we chose our animal, we did a ton of background research on it. After that, we had to make an environmental law to protect the animal we chose from going extinct. The animal I chose was the Giraffe.

My presentation

In my presentation, I explained a few different facts about giraffes, like where they live, what the climate is like for them and what their predators are. I explained how giraffes are being negatively affected by their economic sector, and how they are affected by climate change. Then, I researched online to find out what we can do to protect the giraffes, which helped me make an environmental law to protect the giraffes. The part where we make an environmental law is very important for this project.

What I can do to improve for next time

I think I can improve on my presentation by using more effective transitioning words, rather than jumping straight to the topic. I think I can improve my PowerPoint by adding a couple more picture for each slide. And last, I think I can improve on my work habits that I used for this project. For this project, I kind of waited to finish it closer to the due date. Next time, I think it’s better for me to complete work as soon as I can, so that way I don’t have to do it later and risk being rushed because it’s almost due.

My reflection on the owl pellet dissection

In this assignment, we dissected an owl pellet, which was a pretty cool and interesting experience.

Reflection

In this dissection, I was pretty surprised to see all the different types and sizes of bones, that were found in the fur of the owl pellet.

While articulating the skeleton, it was hard searching for the right bones for the skeleton. It was also hard to figure out which type of owl we had.

I learned that owls have a ton of prey. I learned that owls prey on fish, rodents, squirrels, and more. They seem to be high on the food chain.

This activity connects to what we’ve learned in class, because in class we have learned about different parts of the body, and what their function is. In this dissection, we got to see the different bones that were in the owl pellet, then we assembled all the right bones together to make a skeleton.

Photos

Below, you will see a few pictures of what we did in this assignment, which include the articulated skeleton.
