What is TFS STEAM?

Incoming grade 9, students in the TFS STEAM Program will be taking the following courses as part of the STEAM Program.

In addition to these courses, students also take Social Studies, PE and two additional electives. If students are thinking of going to university, then a language is recommended for one of their additional electives.

This program challenges and extends the learning for students who have strong work habits, a keen interest in the STEAM field and are good collaborators as well as independent learners.

The STEAM 9 cohort program includes an interdisciplinary approach that weaves together Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math through inquiry-based learning. Students will use 3D printers, CNC routers, laser engravers, arduinos, robots, and cricut machines to design, build and create a passion project. Students are encouraged to innovate, solve problems, and demonstrate their understanding.
Cohort learning: Students will work together in a cohort model to collaborate on projects and team-building activities. Students will develop problem-solving and build skills using a variety of technologies. Field experiences and Citizen Science Projects, live and virtual, will play an important piece in our program to broaden students’ educational experiences.

The STEAM program is about going deeper into the Science & Math curriculum to find connections to technology, engineering, and art. The program challenges and extends the learning for students who have strong work habits, a keen interest in the STEAM field and are good collaborators as well as independent learners.
