I can add backgrounds to add to the atmosphere of my story. But I have to make sure my text shows up well on the background….
(bg:black)[I can do this by adding backgrounds to just certain pieces of text, whether they lead any where or not….]
(bg:black)[[You have no choice but to continue to run down the hallway….-> further down the hallway]]Now I can put the information for my second paragraph, and give the reader some choices.
Running from the monster you reach a branch in the road:
[[Run to the right -> Right Path]]
[[Run to the left -> Left Path]]You can also connect back to other previous passages, to do this you have to select the paragraph you want them to connect to by choosing it when you start typing the the command for go to. SYNTAX matters extremely – if you had a space after the arrow, if you capitalized or not all of this can accidentally get a new paragraph generated rather than connecting to a previous paragraph.
[[ Change your mind and spin around to go left!-> Left Path]](enchant: ?Page, (bg:”https://live.staticflickr.com/3368/3259000926_7c17e8369e.jpg”, ))
(set: $event to (random: 1, 4))
You can also add some key events, ones that are locked by chance…. 😉
(if: $event is 1)[Running down the hallway the monster is gaining on you!
[[Run faster to get away! ->door]]]
(elseif: $event is 2)[Running down the hallway you almost trip on a rusty old key, you look down at it but the monster is gaining on you!
[(link:”Run faster to get away!”)[(set:$key to false)(go-to:”door”)]]
[(link: “Quickly scoop up the key and hope that you’re fast enough!”)[(set:$key to true)(go-to:”door”)]]
]
(elseif: $event is 3)[Running down the hallway you almost trip on a rusty old key, half stuck in the ground, you look down at it but the monster is gaining on you!
[[Run faster to get away! ->door]]
[[Try to get the key out! -> Game Over]]]
(elseif: $event is 4)[Running down the hallway you trip on a rusty old key and the monster leaps!
[[Oh no!😠-> Game Over]] ]This is my introductory paragraph with information hooking the reader into my story.
At this point they should have to make a choice, or be forced to continue on to the next scene through some kind of transition.
[[Gasp! A monster has appeared -> Paragraph 2]](enchant: ?Page, (bg:”https://live.staticflickr.com/3527/3760367606_1a0dd47a4a_b.jpg”, ))
You finally reach the door at the end of the long hallway – the monster hot on your heels, grabbing the door knob it rattles but doesn’t move.
(if: $key is true)[[[But you remember the key you grabbed! Scambling to get it out of your pocket you manage to unlock the door just in time and slip through to freedom. ->Ending]]]
(else:)[[[Desperately you shake it, doing everything you can to make it open but the monster comes up quickly behind you. -> Game Over]]](enchant: ?Page, (bg:”https://live.staticflickr.com/545/31670873364_a39c8332e6_b.jpg”, ))
#(text-style:”bold”,”emboss”)[🎊You’ve made it out of the scary place! Yay! 🎊]
