Perseverance: “Persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success”

Terry Fox (18) played basketball throughout high school. He lost his leg from cancer, after 16 months of treatment, he decided to play wheelchair basketball and train so he could run across Canada in the Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research. Even though he had loss a limb and had to relearn the basics of how to walk and run, he took the time and persevered to achieve his goals.

A person I admire that has allied perseverance to their digital life is Michelle Obama. When her husband, Barack Obama, was running for president, Michelle and Barack received lots of hate messages and comments online due to their ethnicity. She didn’t let those comments stop her from becoming the first African American First Lady. Michelle didn’t let the hater get to her, instead she stayed respectful, humble, and persevered through the negative comments and hate to achieve and claim her now known title.

Perseverance is important to me when creating a positive online reputation because it is important to not stop what you are doing or quit when people say hateful things to or about you online. Everyone will always have an opinion about you and what you do, but people must learn how to persevere through the hate and stand their values/beliefs. Remaining calm and unfazed to show that you don’t condone their actions or give them attention. Staying true to yourself and achieving your goals is the most important thing; ignoring or reporting those who are negative towards you and others will create a positive online site for everyone.
