Trades in Training – Carpentry

This post-secondary program is part of the Industry Authority TRADES in TRAINING initiative and is open to Grade 12 students intending to pursue a career as a Red Seal Carpenter. This is a partnership program with BCIT, students will take 4 courses in the second semester which includes a 5 week session at the BCIT campus. Students will earn 16 credits towards graduation and will write the Carpentry level 1 exam. Successful students will gain credit for their 1st year of the Carpentry Apprenticeship Program and will qualify to progress to Carpentry Level 2 training. There is also the opportunity during the program to gain an additional 8 to 16 credits for the Work Based Training program. This program is designed for motivated students with a career focus that are looking to get ahead while still in High School giving themselves excellent Apprenticeship placement advantages. OPEN TO ALL SCHOOL DISTRICT 43 STUDENTS having the following:

Math 11 (if Essentials, C minimum)

Carpentry and Joinery 11 recommended

Physical Ability to do the job

Enrollment in this program will be limited to 16 students per year, and admission will be by application. The application process will include an interview and a review of attendance records as well as a recommendation from a teacher. Applicants will need to have their courses programmed in such a way as to have their required Grade 12  courses completed by the Fall Semester.
