Course Code: YLRA-2B-AQ

This is a second-semester course offered in partnership with the City of Port Coquitlam to prepare Grade 10, 11, or 12 students to become lifeguards. Through the program, students will complete the first three courses required to become lifeguards. Students will spend two days a week at the pool working on practical skills, and three days a week at school completing coursework. By the end of the course, students will earn their Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid certifications, four credits in athletic leadership and an additional four Grade 11 credits for the successful completion of their aquatic courses. In order to be successful, students need to be proficient swimmers (having completed level 10 or equivalent such as participating in competitive swimming). The cost for the course is approximately $300 (although similar courses in the community cost around $600).
