Welcome to my Grade 9 Passion Project Journey!

Getting the Project Started

I researched the the hardware I’m going to use and attempted to draw a plan:

for the electronics I am going to get the following:

radio transmitter and receiver:

12V 10A 1 Channel Relay RF Wireless Remote Control 2 Receivers Momentary Switch : Amazon.ca: Tools & Home Improvement

for the lights to flash I will need 2 of these:

2-Pin Electronic LED Flasher Relay FIX Motorcycle Turn Signal Bulbs Hyper Flash : Amazon.ca: Automotive

and then the lights themselves I will just use motorcycle lights like this:

CICMOD Motorcycle Led Turn Signals Indicators Blinkers Lights for Harley Suzuki Yamaha Kawasaki (Black Cover), Turn Signal Assemblies & Lenses – Amazon Canada

I printed a little prototype to help visualize what the arms will look like:

I decided to get these lights from amazon instead to make it more like a project and to avoid it looking like I could just buy the equivalent of the end result. I ordered all the parts that I need from amazon.

I printed a box to house the electronics and a prototype version for the arms. the radio transmitter and receiver and the lights came. I thought I ordered electronic flash control but I guess I missed the word “stoplight” in the title because I accidentally ordered stoplight control for a motorcycle. so I found some different ones that or flash control for a car.

I printed the final design for the arms and glued the lights in. I made a simple bracket for the back to attach the arms to the bike. unfortunately the electronic flash control just doesn’t work, I should have looked at reviews because it seems to be that it either works or doesn’t and there’s no in between so they probably wouldn’t last very long even if they worked when I got them. I ended up just getting a couple older style flash control where there is physical movement instead of just a circuit. Now I just need to solder all the wires and then the project is basically done.

Reflection after the steam fair

My project went good I think. I definitely need to work on my time management because I don’t feel my project was as finished as it could have been. I wanted it to be made out of nylon but do to time left I had to stick with PLA witch isn’t as strong as nylon. I also had to just get an old style flash control so the 5 coin cell battery’s I was going to use with the flash control that I got on amazon would have worked with the 5 coin cell battery’s.

the event was good I think I was outside most of the time so I didn’t really see how the event was inside where most of the projects were

right now I don’t know if I want to improve my project for next year or start a new project.

I didn’t do very well at planning as I usually do, and as a result I didn’t finish the project as much as I wanted to.

My presentation was ok but I think I tended to do to much explaining on the technical part of it, like how the electronics worked.
