When: April 6th to 9th.
Where: Fort Worth Zoo in Dallas Texas.
We went to Dallas because it was one of the few places that had a zoo in the line of totality.
30 students from STEAM 10 and 11 are going to the Fort Worth zoo for the solar eclipse. We will be at the zoo for 2 of the 4 days.
The first day we were at the zoo was only for a few hour to become familiar with the zoo and the animals we would be researching. I was assigned to the tigers.
The second day the zoo was the day of the eclipse. we arrived at opening to get set up. We took some group photos and got our instruction and we were off. we spent an hour or so getting some average data on what our animals were like most of the time from our zoo keepers. Then we went for lunch and got some more instruction. after we headed back to our animals and began to recorded our data for the lead up to the eclipse.
My tigers lounged around form most of the day, only getting up to move to more shaded spots. at 1:38 the female discovered a snake that had made its way into the enclosure. This was her first time coming in contact with one so she was rather puzzled and kept walking around the snake. She spent the next 30 minutes play with the snake. She was eventual let inside because the zoo keeper were worried that she might get bit. When the male heard the door open he thought it was dinner time. So he wandered over not knowing there was a snake near the door. when he got close the snake lunged at him scaring him a lot, he jumped almost 4-5 feet in the air. He was very afraid of the snake and was trapped in the corner not wanting to get passed it. In the end the female tiger completely ignored the eclipse and the male slept through it.
