Final Reflection:

  • Describe each activity you participated in (include pictures) – What did you do?
  • SSEP Proposal

I collaborated on a proposal for an experiment to be sent to the SSEP. Our inquiry was about how quickly copper erodes in a zero gravity environment. We worked on this project for about three weeks. The proposal was written in several parts, with each member of our group contributing to at least one, but parts were shared and edited by others. We were passed over for actual testing.

  • Pumpkin Experiment with Ms. Lawson

Ms. Lawson set up two pumpkin experiments in October 2021. Including elephant toothpaste in a pumpkin and exploding a pumpkin. I believe there was another, but I can’t recall it. There were approximately 30 students there to watch.

  • DNA Classroom Assessment

We made DNA chains in science class as part of the STEAM program, using beads that represented a butterfly’s DNA. During the project, I chose a butterflies DNA with my partner Paige although there were other options. On the back, we had to answer some questions about the DNA code we had created.

  • Website portfolio

Every grade 9 student in this school was required to create an online portfolio, though students in the STEAM program  had different topics to write about. Depending on what was posted on the STEAM Team or Science Honors Team, I had to post different pages about various subjects. I’ve shared information about my SSEP, drafting projects, an about me page, and a passion project page.

  • What did you learn? What are you proud of achieving?

The SSEP proposal project taught me that I should always be as detailed and explicit as possible to ensure that my thoughts make the most sense possible. I’m proud of having built a lab that real scientists could examine and judge .

  • What questions do you have about science that you would be interested in exploring in the future?

I’m curious about DNA and the ethics of cloning, as well as knowing your DNA sequence from the moment you were born. I’d also like to learn more about space science, such as how mankind would prepare for a mission to a new planet.
