Capstone/ Passion Project 2.0: The Celesta
(Project Status as of June 25, 2024: Ongoing)
Project Description:
Through my final high school years I will be building a fully operational Celesta using the materials I have access to at school to demonstrate the complexity of its components and showcase the beauty of its sound.
What is a Celesta?
The Celesta is a unique instrument invented by French Organ-maker, Auguste Mustel and his father, Charles Victor Mustel in 1886 as the successor to their preceding instrument, the Typophone. The Celestas distinctive sound is made possible with its special mechanism utilizing steel plates suspended over wooden resonators which generates a dulcet sound in its higher registers and a warm mellow sound in its lower registers.
